born & raised on the coast of maine, the child of an oils-based painter who loved all things blue and coastal, mark spent his "middle years" in new york city and for the past two decades has called northern california home.   he travels broadly and is an avid photographer, from which he draws much of his inspiration.  forever a student, mark rediscovered painting in 2015.

mid-february 2020: i've been slowly working through the mid foreground -- building edges, gardens, trees and fence posts.  i feel close --worked on the lawn last monday and am happy with how it is coming along.   i will "return to the sky" before I'm done because I want to go back to an earlier version that I think looks more like michelle's sky -- more true to the original work.  then it is the wrapped edges and i may call it a day.

late december 2019: i'm working on a 30x30 canvas wrap of a photograph by maine photopgrapher michelle amero.  michelle and i met many years ago in maine when i was still doing lots of photography shows.  this is her picture of topside inn in boothbay harbor, maine.  someone just said, "finally, something without rocks!"  i'm having a good time so far!
